Laminated Busbar FAQ

The questions buyers and engineers ask most before an order — grouped by quote, technical, quality and delivery. Each answer is written the way our engineers would answer it on a call.

Quote & ordering answers

Most quote questions reduce to one principle: the quotation is only as complete as the specification. Current, voltage class, layers, terminals and quantity produce a same-day technical response via the quote process. Missing items do not stop the conversation — they just start it at an estimate. Quantity is the single biggest price lever; state an annual range rather than a single piece count.

Technical answers

Technical questions split into sizing (cross-section, layers, temperature rise), materials (copper, aluminum, dielectrics) and geometry (terminals, creepage, bends). The specifications page carries the standard ranges; deeper design rules live in the design guide. If two suppliers give different layer counts for the same application, ask both to show the current-sharing and inductance calculation — that is where the real difference is.

Quality answers

Quality answers are about evidence, not promises. Per-lot hipot, insulation resistance, dimensional and continuity testing with batch records is our baseline; CoC is available on request; PPAP-style documentation is scoped per programme. The quality documents page lists exactly what ships with an order and what to ask for in advance. Test levels are frozen in the drawing agreement, not improvised at shipment.

Delivery answers

Lead time, MOQ, packaging, payment and export classification are covered on the order & shipping page. The practical tip: order the sample and the production tooling in the same approval round when possible — it collapses the schedule by one full cycle. And for urgent needs, state the target date in the inquiry; we can often compress the critical path with expedited tooling.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How many layers can a laminated busbar have?
SHANYUAN builds laminated busbars from 1 to 6+ layers. Layer count is driven by circuit topology (DC+, DC-, AC phases, sense lines) and by current per layer. See the specifications page for the standard stack options.
What is the current capacity of a laminated busbar?
Capacity depends on cross-section, layers and temperature rise. Our reference basis is a 30 °C rise at rated current; a 30 x 5 mm single copper bar carries roughly 450 A under that basis. Use the ampacity calculator to estimate your size.
Copper or aluminum — which should I specify?
Copper (C11000) gives lower resistance and better thermal performance; aluminum (6101) weighs less and costs less but needs about 40% more cross-section for the same resistance, and bolted joints need different torque control. The copper vs aluminum comparison in our resources explains the trade-offs.
What dielectric materials do you use?
PET film for standard insulation up to moderate voltages, Nomex for higher thermal class, and DLF (dielectric film) constructions for high-voltage or PD-critical applications. Material choice follows voltage class, temperature and any UL 94 V-0 requirement.
Which terminal types are available?
M6 and M8 threaded studs, blade terminals and welded tabs are the standard families, with solder and press-fit options on request. Terminal layout is defined in the drawing; the DFM review validates spacing and plating coverage.
Do you tin-plate the busbars?
Yes. Tin plating (typically 5-15 µm) is standard on connection areas for corrosion resistance and stable contact resistance. Silver plating is available for high-current interfaces where contact resistance matters most.
What tests are done on every batch?
Hipot (dielectric withstand), insulation resistance, dimensional and continuity checks per lot. PD testing is available where the voltage class and application require it. Every lot ships with test records; CoC is provided on request.
Can you provide a CoC or PPAP documents?
CoC is available on request with each shipment. PPAP-style documentation (IMDS, control plans, capability studies) can be scoped in the quotation for automotive programmes. Test specifications follow the agreement at design freeze.
What is your MOQ?
Custom laminated busbar projects typically start from a few hundred pieces per year once tooling is amortized. Low-volume and prototype needs are covered by sample builds before production tooling.
What are typical lead times?
Tooling and samples: 2-4 weeks after drawing approval. Production for repeat orders: 2-5 weeks depending on volume, plating and layers. Exact dates are in the quotation.
How are busbars packed for export?
Busbars are individually protected and boxed or palletized depending on size, with edge protection on plated surfaces. Export documents include the commercial invoice, packing list and, on request, CoC.
Which HS code applies to laminated busbars?
Laminated busbars are typically classified under HS 8536.90 (electrical apparatus) or 8544.90 (insulated conductors) depending on construction. We state the code used on our export invoices; confirm classification with your broker for your market.
What payment terms do you accept?
T/T is standard; L/C is accepted for larger orders. Payment terms are agreed per order and stated in the quotation. We do not process payments through this website.
Do you support 800V and higher voltage systems?
Yes. Laminated busbars for 800 V EV platforms and 1000-1500 V DC systems are a core product family, with dielectric and creepage design per the voltage class. See the battery busbar and power electronics pages for the standard families.
